All have lengthy attachments to the Rock and Pillars, some going back to the mid 1960s. The Mason brothers have variously been involved in purchasing Leaning Lodge and Big Hut for the Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club, and in their subsequent maintenance. The R&P Hut Trust is a (more focused) reincarnation of what they have been doing for the last 20 years.
