Young, Old and Middle

Fiordland College students discussing the race with the oldest participant, Derek Turnbull of Tussock Creek near Hedgehope. He says he has been 'fiddling around' with athletics for the last 61 years. This is the first time he has entered a Rail Trail event.

He did the Haast to Dunedin 7-8 years ago and would not enter if he did not enjoy it. He believes it is more important to have good health than money. Claims he keeps fairly low key bikes which he oils now and then but was spotted recently with a bike with front suspension!

In the background Bernice Lepper discussing the race with Rachel Bathgate.
