We start with the village - current population 202! - and then move further afield to the countryside where you can see and feel the texture of lichen-covered schist rock and visit historic stone buildings. Imagine the hustle and bustle as you view Cottesbrook stone woolshed (built 1858) as, in the days at her peak, 24 blade-shearers clipped away at the fleece of nearly 70,000 merino sheep on the former 250,000 acre station. You will then visit the Standing Stone sheep yards - likened by some to Stonehenge. |

Other relics of a bygone era can be viewed during the walk-about at Mastrick ('land of stone') farm. After crossing the 100 year old suspension bridge over the Taieri River you will reboard the train at Sutton. PS. Guess what? It can be so much fun as we look out for the unexpected whilst travelling our naturalistic back country roads. |
