 General Race Rules
  • Minimum entry age for the individual duathlon is 14 years
  • Minimum number of team members is 2 (maximum 4). The secondary schools teams must have 4 team members.
  • Entries are not transferable to other competitors. If this occurs, both competitors will be disqualified.
  • Teams may only enter in one category and an individual competitor may not be part of a team.
  • Competitors must not be accompanied or paced by cyclists, vehicles or unentered competitors. If this occurs, the competitor will be disqualified.
  • Competitors must keep to the Rail Trail. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • All entries must be signed and full payment sent with the entry form for the entry to be valid.
  • The race number must be worn as issued and must not be altered. Only competitors wearing official race numbers will be allowed to finish.
  • Marshalls will be located at each road crossing and competitors must adhere to their directions.
  • Helmets are compulsory on the cycle stages.
  • Drink stations will be located at each transition point.
  • Every team member must do at least one complete stage per day.
  • All stages must be completed by the member starting the stage.
 Entries Entries on the official form accompanied by the correct entry fee (and any other fees) must be received by the Maniototo Lions Club by 7 February 2000. Entries received after that date will incur a late entry penalty of $5 extra and will be accepted only at the discretion of the race organisers. School teams may enter up to 14 February 2000.
 Registration/ Race Briefing

All competitors on each day must report to Race Registration no later than half an hour prior to the race start, and collect their race number.

On Saturday 19 February, a race briefing will be given at the Clyde Railhead start point at 9am, half an hour prior to race start time. Rail Trail supporters packs are to be collected prior to the race start

On Sunday 20 February, a race briefing will be given at Ranfurly Station start point at 11-30am. Rail Trail supporters packs are to be collected prior to race start.

Note At Ranfurly, the race will commence at 12.30pm following the official opening of the Otago Central Rail Trail by the Governor-General.

Race Start

Day One - Clyde Railhead to Ranfurly 9.30am from the Clyde Railhead, corner of SH 8 and Springvale Road, to the Ranfurly Railway Station.

Day Two - Ranfurly to Middlemarch 1 2.30pm from the Ranfurly Railway Station to the Middlemarch Railway Station. 

Prize Giving

Prizes for competitors involved in Day One - Clyde railhead to Ranfurly only, will be presented at the Barn Dance on Saturday evening. Certificates with times will be available as soon as possible after the conclusion of the race.

Prizes for competitors involved in the Day Two - Ranfurly to Middlemarch only race and those involved in the Two Day duathlon will be presented at Middlemarch at approx. 4.30pm on Sunday 20. A barbecue and refreshments will be available from the conclusion of the race. Certificates with times will be available as soon as possible after the conclusion of the race.

Results

A summary of final results in each category will be posted to all individual competitors and team captains.

Prize money for Individual competitors will be awarded to the fastest three men and three women to complete the full 150km course regardless of age.

Prize money for each single day (men's and women's) and teams will be awarded down to third dependent upon the number of entries in each category.

The winner of the secondary schools category will receive the Otago Central Rail Trail Duathlon Challenge Trophy to hold for one year.

If low numbers in a category (Individual or Teams) then spot prizes may be substituted for cash.
